VBOX III with RTK
The VBOX III RTK uses the same 100Hz
survey grade GPS engine as the VBOXIII, but in addition it can also
receive corrections from an RTK differential
Base Station. In RTK mode, you obtain a phenomenal ±1cm position
accuracy which is accurate enough for a range of diverse and demanding
tests. RTK stands for Real Time Kinematic, for a more detailed
explanation of RTK, please take a look in our comprehensive
FAQ.
Height is also very accurate using RTK,
allowing measurements to within ±2cm.
Uses The VBOXIII RTK is useful for tests
requiring very precise knowledge of vehicle position, and has been used
by our customers in track mapping, gradient measurement, brake testing,
calibration, drive-route plotting, deviation caused by side winds,
drive-by noise measurement, development of active cruise control and
self parking systems. The height measurement is accurate to ±2cm, so you
can use it to profile your test track to a very high accuracy.
When it is working in Glonass and RTK mode, the sample
rate is limited to a maximum of 20Hz, but all of the normal channels are
also available, such as Velocity, Time, Distance, Acceleration, height,
Vertical Velocity.
Glonass
Glonass is the
Russian satellite navigation system, which has approximately half the
number of satellites as the US system, and unlike the GPS system, they
all operate on different frequencies. By using a number of different
frequencies instead of just the one that GPS uses, the RTK lock can be
acquired much more quickly, and once it has lock, it is also more
robust.
It is advisable to use the Glonass and RTK
only in
a completely open test area, as it is not very tolerant of obstructions
caused by trees, buildings or bridges.
Note that some environments such as dense
urban areas or moderate tree cover are not suitable for RTK even with
the Glonass.
